The 44th annual Gold Cup Classic high school basketball tournament will tip off the morning of Friday, Dec. 15, with a total of 24 teams from across Ontario and Quebec participating. Action will continue all day Friday and throughout Saturday at 4 gyms – O’Gorman, Theriault, Roland Michener and Timmins High.

The tournament concludes with “Championship Night” on Saturday, Dec. 16 at Timmins High with game times as follows:

• Junior Consolation Championship – 1:30 p.m. at Timmins High Senior

• Consolation Championship – 3 p.m. at Timmins High

• Junior Championship – 4:30 p.m. at Timmins High

• Senior Championship – 6 p.m. at Timmins High

This year, games will be broadcast on television by Eastlink throughout Timmins and Northern Ontario. The tournament’s major sponsors Include: Adidas Canada, the Comfort Inn, and Goldcorp. Organizers are predicting this year’s Gold Cup will be the most competitive and balanced in the tournament’s history.
