Stars and Thunder is an ambitious, week-long music festival and international fireworks competition launched by the City of Timmins driven primarily by Mayor Steve Black. Designed to mark Canada’s 150th anniversary in 2017 and boost local tourism, the event brought big name headliners to Northern Ontario. However, it sparked intense political and financial backlash over its massive price tag and municipal risk.
