Moving to Northern Ontario

I've decided to piece together a picture journal of my experiences moving to Northern Ontario and what it's like to work for community television.

Better late than never

Today I was moving to Timmins to work as a television producer for Eastlink TV. It took me about eight hours to drive from Ottawa over two days. Most people move up to Northern Ontario for the mining opportunities but not me. I'm making a career change to make local shows for community TV.

Turn right to go through North Bay. No traffic issues like Ottawa or Toronto. Fairly smooth sailing so far and uneventful which is exactly how you want it to be.

Once you get past North Bay, everywhere you look along the highway looks like this. I even stopped to take this photo it looked so photogenic. Nothing but blue skies and no traffic to worry about.

It took me six hours from my front door to Latchford, Ontario. Population of about 350. Probably more trees than people which is why forestry is such a big industry around here. After the overnight stay, the hardest part of the drive was over. 2.5 hours and I'll be in Timmins, home of Shania Twain!

As soon as I saw the welcome sign, I had to get a picture to prove I had made it up this far.
