I'm A Shadow

First assignment was to shadow a veteran cameraman who has been with CTV for over 40 years. The CTV News weatherman J.J. Clarke had the city name a Kanata park in his honour and we were sent to cover it. Kanata South councillor Allan Hubley and Mayor Jim Watson were at the ceremony.

Being inside the control room and watching a live news broadcast was absolutely thrilling. So many moving parts, so many things going on. It was wild to watch in person. The camera and editing are like riding a bike for me. The directing might take some time but with proper training and experience, I'll figure it out. The hardest part is actually figuring out their system. They use Avid iNEWS for tracking and assigning stories. It's an industry-standard newsroom computer system used by broadcast and digital newsrooms for writing, planning, live rundowns, and broadcast coordination.
