Zenon Ziemba (Behind The Scenes)

The Zenon Ziemba Boys Basketball tournament is the longest running tournament in the Timmins area. It is named for former O’Gorman student, Zenon Ziemba, who graduated from O’Gorman High School in 1968. Zenon exemplified what it means to be an athlete at OHS.

He was dedicated to the sport and demonstrated a high level of ability in the game while always exhibiting a true spirit of sportsmanship. Unfortunately in September of 1968, a car accident took his life at the age of 19. This tournament helps us remember this bright young man whose life came to a tragic end. His sister and brother-in-law, Dawn and Gerry Labelle are retired teachers of O’Gorman High School.

Packing up our gear for a tournament is a bit like a game of Tetris. I'm truly amazed sometimes at how much gear we have and are able to fit inside our Ford Transit. Yes the doors close. Barely.
